St Margaret’s Hospice has been at the heart of Somerset’s community for over 40 years, delivering high quality, responsive and compassionate care to patients and their families facing a life-limiting illness.

Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

In 2004 Bryony was lucky enough(?) to get a ballot place to run the London Marathon at the age of 18 and 2 days!  I thought it would be a good idea to run in the same event (having said I would never run London as it was too big!).

St Margarets' Hospice was kind enough to offer me one of their places. so we were able to start together.  A very nervous Dad & Daughter, stood amongst 40,000 other runners, wondering what we had let ourselves in for.

Well under 5 hours later Bryony ran through the finish, a huge smile on her face, having had a fantastic experience.  I finished a bit before her, feeling like I was on my last legs, cold, wet and grumpy (nothing changes then!).  On the positive side, we managed to raise over £1,600 between the two of us!

So here we are, 5 years later, once again Bryony has managed to get a ballot place and me, having vowed never to run again, am preparing for my 6th consecutive FLM, having managed to finish in "Good for Age" times each year and gain an automatic entry.

Bryony has promised to do more than just two training runs before the marathon this year and I am hoping to go under 3 hours for the 4th time, but I am not promising!
FINISHED
We both had a great day, both slower than we had hoped, Martin due to a broken collarbone and Bryony because she just isn't as young as she used to be!  The atmosphere was fantastic, the weather superb and the marshalls, volunteers and helpers just brilliant.
