My story

 
On January 7th Julyan Bayes and Ian Dennis will take part in the Plymouth to Timbuctu Charity Challenge, a car rally covering 4000 miles, which according to the rules is totally unsupported and must be completed in a car costing no more than one hundred pounds.
 
Upon completion our ‘rally’ car and all equipment will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to local charities in Mali, Africa.
 
In the meantime we would also like to raise money for Rowcroft Hospice, a more local charity here in Devon. Rowcroft Hospice provides free of charge care for people in South Devon living with life-threatening illnesses, while supporting their families and carers. The South Devon hospice provides physical, emotional, social and spiritual support when people are seriously ill, either in the patient's home or at the hospice itself.

Because of recent security issues, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office is advising against any travel in Mauritania. It has stated that there is a ‘high risk of kidnap’ in the areas that we plan to drive through on our way to Mali. Because of this we have been forced to change our route slightly.

We will now be part of ‘The Off-Road Challenge’ in Morocco. Although we are now unable to donate our car to charity in Mali, we are still hoping to raise more money for Rowcroft.
