The Mission....
Team Rambo is undertaking a Charity mission in Europe. The dates are 21st - 25th May 2009. The code name is SUCATA SPLIT. This mission requires the team to purchase a vehicle for less than £250 English Pounds. Then to drive in convoy formation with other trained units (hopefully without encountering enemy fire or mechanical malfunction) through hazardous terrain to rendevous in Croatia.
Easy for Rambo? We will see.....
The briefing is as follows:-
Setting off from Brugge, Team Rambo (and several other hardened vets) will navigate their way through seven different countries, (Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia) and the stunning Alps before (hopefully!) arriving on the stunning Dalmatian coast for full de-brief and some R&R. Our chosen vehicle is a 1990 Mitsubishi Shogun with native green livery and a small quanity of rust. The distance is over 2000km!
The Serious Bit....
With the money raised by Sucata Split this year we are planning to run a project to raise awareness of Malaria. Students from over 100 schools around the globe will be able to explore the topic using the case study of Sierra Leone, where it is the biggest killer of children under five. They will explore the reasons why so many people still die from malaria and what is being done by humanitarian aid agencies to prevent this.
Through participation in this project, young people will be able to join the global effort against malaria. They will hear stories of how governments and aid organisations are fighting the disease, they will talk to other children in affected regions, and they will be given the opportunity to design their own awareness raising campaign on the theme of malaria prevention.
Each £1000 raised by teams taking part in this event will pay for five schools to take part in the project. The more schools that we can involve, the bigger an impact we can have around the world.
Unlike other European banger rallies, 100% of the money teams raise goes directly to charity. Read more...
