My story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page for RMHC, in loving memory of Alice Mary Rowlands.

SCROLL DOWN FOR A SPECIAL NEWS UPDATE!

Our beloved daughter Alice was born on 25 September 2007.  She had a very rare and serious liver disease called Neonatal Haemochromatosis.  Alice’s only chance of survival was to have a liver transplant, so she was urgently transferred to King’sCollegeHospital in London on her fifth day of life.  During this time RMHC provided us with free accommodation near to the hospital so that we could be close to her.  Sadly Alice passed away on 10 October, just 15 days old.

Thanks to RMHC we were able to enjoy the time we spent withAlice, which was so very precious, and something no amount of money could ever buy.  We are eternally grateful.

SPECIAL NEWS UPDATE!
On Tuesday 2nd December, Team Rowlands attended a special unveiling at the Ronald McDonald House where we stayed near King's College Hospital last year.  In recognition of the amazing sum that has been raised in Alice's name, RMHC have put a brass plaque on the door of room 5 ('our' room) saying:

This room has been sponsored by the family and friends of Alice Mary Rowlands

We have added some pictures to the ARMS website, www.alicerowlands.org.

Huge thanks to everyone who has helped raise the amazing total of £25,235, which just keeps on growing!  We have been deeply moved and humbled by your kindness.

LATEST FUNDRAISING NEWS...£25,000 REACHED!

We originally set the fundraising total as £1,000 which we thought was achieveable.  It is a fitting tribute to Alice that on the anniversary of her death, we reached £25,000 in money raised for RMHC. Thank you to everyone who has donated, to see the money come has been amazing and all your messages have given us real strength in the darkest moments.

However, our fundraising doesn't stop here. So a date for your diaries is Friday 3 July 2009 - The second ARMS Gala Dinner!

ARMS Gala Dinner 2008
The Alice Rowlands Memorial Society (ARMS), was founded in February 2008 to raise money for charities inAlice’s Memory.  The ARMS Gala Evening, held on Saturday 5th July 2008 at Sprowston Manor Hotel in Norwich, was a huge success, raising a phenomenal £15,000.  This has been added to the ‘Amount Raised Offline’ below.  For a full account of the evening, visit http://alicerowlands.org/galaevening.aspx

Other fundraising events

Paul Macro did a tandem skydive at Old Buckenham Airfield on 12 July 2008.  This was a prize he won in a competition, and he decided it would be a brilliant way to raise money.  Paul said the skydiving experience was awesome.  We're very glad Paul landed safely and thank him for the money he has raised, which currently stands at over £150, with more to come.

On 25 June, Dave Farrant set off on a mammoth bike ride from Bristol to Toulouse in France.  The full journey was from Montpelier, Bristol to Montpellier, France, although Dave had to finish in Toulouse due to work commitments.  Even so, Dave covered a total distance of 652 miles by pedal power alone over a period of 10 days, which is a truly amazing feat and raised £500 for the charity.

On 5 October, Paul Rowlands ran the Great North Run in 2 hours 39 mins and raised £770 for RMHC.  You can read more about Pauls Great North Run experience at www.alicerowlands.org

Special Thanks...

...to the staff, children and their families at Fairview Nursery for collectively donating £78.60 at the children's Christmas Concert.

...to S1, Miranda's friends on the UEA Primary PGCE course who collectively donated £112.20 as a thank you to Miranda for organising their Christmas Party.

...to Evie who raised £200 for ARMS / RMHC.  Evie had a big party for her 13th birthday and invited her friends to make a donation to the charity instead of buying her presents.  We're touched by Evie's lovely idea.  Special thanks to her and all her party guests.

City of Norwich School Reunion Raffle
Our first ever raffle was drawn on Saturday 3rd May at the CNS Class of '89/'91 reunion.  It was a huge success, raising an astounding £1,404 for RMHC!  The cash has been added to our 'offline total' below.  Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and congratulations to the lucky winners.

Denton Charity Lunch – Sunday 6 April 2008
We would like to thank the people ofDenton who so generously supported the charity lunch at Denton Village Hall on Sunday 6th April.  A fabulous total of £640.00 was raised for RMHC at the event, which has been included in the ‘Amount Raised Offline’ below.

Denton is a small village near Bungay, close to the border between Norfolk and Suffolk.  Several of Paul’s colleagues, past and present, live in the village and decided to organise the charity lunch after hearing our story.

The meal was delicious, which is no mean feat when you consider that the chefs were catering for over 70 people!  There was a wonderful community spirit, we were warmly welcomed by everyone and made to feel like honorary ‘Dentonites’ for the day.

Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make the lunch such a big success.
