Bristol South (BSCC) is one of the country's oldest cycling clubs.
Club member Ewan organises a competition where each month a member selects a hill to climb in or near Bristol against the clock on Strava.
Ewan himself is an epic long-distance cyclist, recently completed an ‘Everesting’ challenge (non-stop riding up the same hill 62x to accumulate the height of Everest) and is all round nice guy.
2015 has had its challenges for Ewan:In February he was involved in a head-on accident, knocked unconscious needing 44 stitches in various facial wounds, plus a broken tooth and finger. Typically of Ewan, no fuss was made and I suspect many of his fellow club members didn’t even know.
Then within a couple of months another blow – he was diagnosed with MS. Again, no fuss, just Ewan getting on with things. You can read more in Ewan’s blog at: https://cyclingwithms.wordpress.com
Hence this charity event. It seemed appropriate to join up the three things: Ewan organising the competition, his MS diagnosis, and BSCC. On Sunday December 6th the club will complete a charity ride in aid of the Bristol-based MS Research Charity (ms-research.org.uk).
The ride will cover all of the 2015 monthly hill climbs in one go. With November’s hill still under wraps the route will currenlty cover about 50 miles, and take in around 4,000 feet of ascent. And it’ll be early December so who knows what the weather will be like!
If you've got this far I'll mention that donations via Mark Bradley's page have the potential to be doubled (up to £500) by his employer...
