Mt Kili Madness

Mt Kili Madness is aiming to take cricket to new heights and in the process to raise money for and awareness of some wonderful causes.

Currently the world record for the highest recorded game of cricket stands at 5100m which took place at Base Camp 2 of Everest. We plan to play at 5785m which will be a huge physical achievement and will undoubtedly raise much interest, coverage and support. The expedition will set off on Saturday 20th September for a 7 day hike to reach our chosen pitch. The wicket will be laid, the stumps will be set up and the cucumber sandwiches will be cut in preparation for a game of 20/20 in the crater of one of the most magnificent mountains in the world – Mount Kilimanjaro… The victor will be crowned the King of the Mountain the losers – well they will hold their heads in shame – and carry the kit down!

No doubt everyone of us has been affected by cancer in some way or other. 12.7 million people in the world will learn they have cancer this year, and 7.6 million die from the disease. It is estimated that one in three people in the UK alone will be affected by some form of cancer during their lifetime.* Cancer Research UK’s work funds research and expert advice and support for sufferers and their families.

Poaching is rife through Africa – it is estimated that 100 Africa elephants are killed each day. This is a complex societal issue but with Rhino horn fetching $60,000 per kg it is no wonder it is fuelling poaching activity. This is not only unbalancing a delicate ecosystem it is destroying the tourism industry across Africa.

Tusk has built a reputation for identifying and supporting an impressive range of conservation and sustainable community development and initiatives right across Africa. The charity, whose Royal Patron is HRH The Duke of Cambridge, invests in programmes which use conservation as a tool to alleviate poverty, improve education and reduce conflict, whilst also protecting areas rich in biodiversity. Funding is focused on the protection of endangered species and habitats, construction of schools, implementation of water projects and improving livelihoods through the creation of nature-based enterprise. Tusk is highly efficient in delivering donor funds with the maximum possible impact.

So don’t miss out on being part of this once in a lifetime opportunity to use the wonderful game of cricket to help raise awareness and support for these great charities.
