WE HAVE DONE IT!!!
We set off from Glasgow on Friday at 6am (with two guest climbers Mrs T and Grandpa Scotland). The rain and wind calmed as we set off up Ben Nevis. We raced up through the steep and endless zigzags to the fun snowy bits and eventually the summit in record time 3 hrs 15 mins. Going down was hard on older knees but what a great mountain and a great day for us all!
After a long drive down to the Lake District, we parked on the track at Seathwaite Farm and slept for three hours listening to heavy rain and wind bouncing off the car roof! Head torches on we dragged ourselves out of our sleeping bags at 2.30 am on Saturday and set off towards Scafell Pike (corridor route via Sty Head). We reached the top at 6.00 am in very wet, cloudy and cold conditions! A proper lakeland mountain experience....
No time to rest as we drove down to North Wales on Saturday morning. We were fortunate to find a parking slot at the Pass, and set off, yes you guessed it, in Welsh rain and wind! The mountain was very busy with parties completing various mountain races/challenges. Head down - the clock is still ticking - we reach the top in record time, cold, wet but very happy to have managed the three summits. As always, the descent is worse than the climb, and after what seemed an age we finally stumbled back to the car. Stop the clock. 31 hours. Fantastic!
