Thanks for visiting The Velociraptors' fundraising page.
Bruce, Damien, David, Piers, Rio and Tasos have joined together to cycle in RideLondon-Surrey 100 and raise money for The Prostate Project. We have set ourselves a fundraising target of £ 10,000. Your donation can really help us smash this goal!
The Velociraptors aim to raise awareness and funding for the Prostate Project’s cancer research team based at the University of Surrey. Prostate cancer has become the biggest cancer killer of men and each year 10,000 men die of the disease in the UK alone. The research team at The University of Surrey, led by Prof Hardev Pandha, is an internationally acclaimed group and is currently producing ground breaking research into diagnosing and treating prostate cancer. Following on from the successful development of an EN2 urine test to detect prostate cancer the research team want to explore the use of EN2 as an imaging tool for cancer. Initial successful trials has shown that using fluorescently labelled antibodies to EN2 allows the scientists to image tumours expressing EN2 on their surfaces. As EN2 is only made by cancer cells, this should enable them to define even small tumour deposits with a high degree of accuracy. This could potentially be a novel imaging method to monitor the size of patients prostate cancer tumours and therefore monitor the progress of patients after treatments.
