What, How, Where, When & Why?
On the 25th June 2011, our select team of nutters will be running the Monopoly route, non-stop, around London in order to raise money and awareness for the charities the Alzheimers Society and Canine Partners - two charities close to the runs founding members hearts. Tim and Dom thought Monopoly was a pretty fun game as far as board games go, so it’s probably even better in real life. Whether or not this is the case, we’re going to try and find out. We’re not going back to go, and hopefully not going to jail, but we are growing a comedy moustache just like the monopoly man himself. The route will be in strict order on the board and total some 45 miles. It turns out that our friends Charles Darrow and The Parker Brothers (who are largely associated with creating the game) were pretty naff when it came to geography. Whilst Marlborough Street and Vine Street are only a few millimeters apart from one another on the board, in reality they are 5.2 miles away from each other!
What can you do?
Perhaps this is a bit of a random thing to have here, as instantly most think donate…but we want everyone to be involved as much as possible. Sadly we haven’t had time to invent a crazy gadget that means you can follow us without actually following us but we are going to be bringing you the blood, sweat and aching muscles (without the smell or actual substance because that would be a little bit disgusting) in real time. Please follow us on Facebook by joining our group [The Monopoly Run 2011] for information about our progress and the build up and follow us on Twitter [@Monopoly_Run_11]for real time event information. We’ll be uploading photos and status’s so you know exactly where we are and how we’re feeling. You’ll even be able to see how we look (although we can’t guarantee we’ll be looking our best by the time we get to Mayfair).
If you want a bit more detail about the charities we’ve chosen and why then please see each members individual team page listed in their biographies below.
Who?
Dom Godfrey
A founding member. "It’s great fun pushing it and making the most of things and when what you do actually makes a difference to someone else it’s even better." If you want to find out more about why I’m doing it or to donate, please see my personal page: http://www.justgiving.com/dom-godfrey
Tim Casey
Another founder. “I’ll be running, walking, crawling – quite frankly anything it takes to get me to that finishing line and I’m never going to play monopoly again”. If you would like to hear my story and get a bit more information or donate please take a look at my page: http://www.justgiving.com/tim-casey0
Mark Slater
The one that got roped in. “I rarely run for more than 10 seconds so this is to prove to the doubters that this is mind over matter.....plus someone told me there is a nice pub at Mayfair”. Check out my Just Giving page for more info: http://www.justgiving.com/Mark-Slater0.
Tim Slater
