Tenby Boxing Day Swim first
took to the water in 1970, and has snowballed into the town’s main Christmas
highlight, as well as one of Britain’s top seasonal spectacles.
Hundreds of brave bathers -
many in fancy dress - take the plunge for charity, watched by crowds in their
thousands from every vantage point around the North Beach.
Last year, over 500
swimmers helped to raise nearly £11,000 for charities and good causes.
And this year, Tenby Sea
Swimming Association, which organises the swim, has great plans to make this 40
th
anniversary event, The Big Red Swim, the biggest and brightest ever!
There’ll be all the old
favourites - the crazy raft race, the canoe challenge, the lifeboat launch, the
fancy dress parade and the welcoming warmth of the beach bonfire as shivering
swimmers proudly collect their commemorative medals - plus a few surprises as
well!
