I did the Midnight Walk on June 6th 2009 and to date have raised nearly £3000 for the St Helena Hospice in Colchester.
My target as you can see was £2000, but I had crashed through that in no time!!!!
As many of you know, my dear Mum was diagnosed with a tumour in her brain last November ('08) Sadly Mum lost her very brave battle on 28th June 2009.
St Helena Hospice and all the staff there are absolutely wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble, and the support they offered us was endless.
Not only to Mum as the patient but to us, the family as well. I went on the Carers Course earlier this year, which was a great help. It didn't teach me about 'caring' in the practical meaning of the word, it covered all manner of topics, including helping us to cope with this dreadful situation we had found ourselves in. I met other carers in a similar position to myself and made some lovely friends.
Mum visited the day centre each week, and met some lovely 'girls' there. The time Mum spent there gave my Dad the chance to do his 'jobs' with the peace of mind that Mum was in good hands.
The care which Mum received in the hopice was absolutely fantastic, we could not have wished for anything better for her, or us. I moved into the hospice eleven days before my Mum died, 'Lock Stock and two Yorkshire Terriers'!! We were made to feel so welcome and became part of everyday 'hospice' life.
This is the reason I would like to go on fundraising, so that someone elses Mum, Dad, Sister, Brother etc can be given the same loving care that my Mum received.
Mum would have been 79 on October 4th this year, so my new fundraising target is going to be £4000 in her memory. Please help me to achieve that figure. Many thanks, Teresa xx
