| Our personal message: |
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
In just a few weeks I will be in Lands End preparing to head North,(its pretty hard to cycle South from Lands End !), and summoning up the energy to turn my bike pedals around 400,000 times and cover the c1000 miles to John O'Groats.
12 days later either the entire Landmass of the UK will lie behind me or my entire divorce proceedings will lie in front of me! (only joking Bernie I'm sure i'll be philosophical if we end up in Felixstowe!)
En route I will be burning around 5000 calories a day and munching/glugging my way daily through about £15 /16 of energy bars and drinks.
In the Kibera in Nairobi £16 buys a child an education ( and therefore a future ) for a month.
Like you I get a lot of requests for Charitable donations and sometimes I wonder how effective those donations are. In this case I can assure you your money will make a real and lasting difference.
KIN is run by Phil and Estelle Goodwin my fellow cyclists on this trip. I have been to see the operation in Nairobi personally and can vouch for the fact that it is run with the minimum possible overhead and is focussed on helping people become self supporting through the provision of secondary education to Orphans and the provision of loans to very small businesses. (The default rate on the loans to date is virtually zero!)
Since I know its not always the case Is should also point out that 100% of the money raised is going to KIN and none whatsoever is going to cover our costs in making the trip.
I am particularly pleased to support Phil on this ride since he was instrumental in helping RK group get off the ground. Whist 3i Regional Director he made the original investment in RK and used us extensively over many years to recruit for both 3i and Montagu Private Equity.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: KIN (Kibera in Need) gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
