Update: A big big thank you for all your donations and helping us reach our original taget of £1,000. We know we can raise that little bit more, so please please, if you haven't yet donated, help us reach the £1,200 mark!
Go to banana-splits.co.uk for all the latest information regarding our quest to Croatia - including the ability to track us live accross europe.
Well you've all heard of our plans to drive accross Europe in a banger for charity. We've now actually bought a car, so need to get organised, and raise some money!
WHAT IS THE SUCATA SPLIT? Sucata Split is a non-competitive European banger rally tour where teams of up to 4 people drive to Split in Croatia, in 4 days, in bangers costing no more than £250.
It takes place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend (21st - 25th) and culminates in a huge party with all those that take part. Sucata Split follows up from the success of the original Sucata tour, The Sucata Run..
WHAT IS THE ROUTE? The tour heads East from Brugge, in Belgium, to the stunning Split in Croatia. En route it stops in Strasbourg, the first city in the world where the whole centre was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, Munich, the Bavarian capital of Germany with it's Lederhosen and world's most famous Beer Hall, the Hofbräuhaus, and the beautiful Ljubljana, capital of Europe's most underrated country Slovenia. 1. Day 1. Thurs 21st May: Brugge to Strasbourg 2. Day 2. Fri 22nd May: Strasbourg to Munich 3. Day 3. Sat 23rd May: Munich to Ljubljana 4. Day 4. Sun 24th May: Ljubljana to Split 5. Day5. Mon 25th May: Time to relax on the beach... or nurse your hangover
WHAT DOES GEMIN-I.ORG DO? Gemin-i.org is a UK registered charity that uses IT to solve problems in education and development. There's loads of information about the charity, it's origins and its current work on our website www.gemin-i.org.
We're raising money for a UK charity that helps children and young people around the world talk to each other about issues that are important to them. In doing so they break down cultural, religious and social barriers. In essence they get people talking to each other so that in later life they are less inclined to enact violence against other religions, cultures or states." PRIZES Aside from the relief and wonderment of completing the tour and the warm fuzzy sense of achievement associated with raising £1000 for a good cause, there will be a number of prizes. First prize is a weeks stay in a luxury villa in the Algarve and will be awarded to the team that raises the most money for the charity. There will also be a number of other special prizes awarded to the teams we feel have earned it. These include: • Most Impressive Fancy Dress (and yes, you do need to convince us that you've worn it for the entire journey!) • Best Banger in show • Furthest hitchhiked (for those with real crap cars) • Don Quixote award for the biggest mishap en route

The car will receive a blue base coat, before we make white stripes on the bonnet, roof and boot - to look like pyjamas. finally to top it off banana decals all round and (perhaps) a yellow canoe painted to look like a banana on the roof.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Gemin-i.org gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. The proceeds from this rally are to be used towards fighting Malaria.
We know its the credit crunch, and everybody's a little strapped, but please please please give what you can. We will be investing hundreds of pounds of our own cash into doing this - and hope you can help us by donating to charity. All money donated online will go directly to the charity - ABSOLUTELY NONE of the money raised will be used to offset costs.
