Story

So please donate now!
Through an exciting new project, the Sabre Trust is aiming to make a major difference to the quality of kindergarten teaching in Ghana. Kindergarten schooling became compulsory in 2007, but historically, the sector has been woefully underfunded: in many communities there are no dedicated classrooms, the children are taught under trees by community teachers who have never received any formal training, and without even basic government funding, no learning resources are available for the children's use.
The case for investing in kindergarten teaching is compelling, with many young Ghanaians beginning primary school without a solid foundation in literacy or numeracy, which in turn leads to high failure rates, and children being held back year after year. With pro bono support from construction consultants Davis Langdon, and the engineering firm Arup, Sabre have designed a new prototype kindergarten school for Ghana, which will be built on sustainable principles, at low cost, and most importantly in response to the teaching principles contained in the government's curriculum. A pilot school is being built in 2009, and once proven the design will then be rolled out to other communities in the KEEA district where Sabre is based. As well as building new schools, the Sabre Trust is furnishing them with appropriate furniture, supplying teaching and learning materials and supporting the teachers through a classroom based coaching scheme.
Your donation will help to fund the roll out of this new school to rural communities in Ghana, helping to build a better future for school children there.
Many thanks for your support!!!
