Victor and David took part in the 2008 Grand Tour with two aims. One was to win this awesome motoring event, the other is to raise as much money as possible for Action on Addiction. Well - were back now as worthy winners of the The Challenge Plate despite fairly fierce competition.
It might look like a jolly in flash cars, staying at posh hotels and living the high life but in fact it is a gruelling four day marathon that tests even the strongest of driver/co-driver relationships - but there is a great party at the end of it. The event has raised nearly two million quid over the years - help us to add to that impressive total. Alcohol and drug dependency is a hard thing to raise money for because most people assume ' it's their own fault'. This is rarely the case. My own father (Victor) died of alcohol related causes in 1990 and at the time, there was no such help available for him. Having drunk only milk at his own wedding, he started drinking shorts with customers (hotelier)and before he knew it he was downing a gin and mix before breakfast in order to face the day. Most people thought he was just being amusing - but the family knew better. Alcohol and drug dependency makes a person spiral into a vortex of depression, self-hate and a complete inability to do anthing about it. Action on Addiction has helped thousands of people from all walks of life recover self belief and sobriety and has given them and their families a new lease of life. For those of you who like us, like a drink, think about this as an insurance policy - my old man didn't think he had a problem either!! Please give as much as you can. Thank you
