Story

Final Update:

We successfully completed the run! Despite starting at the back we passed several thousand people to both finish in under 2 hours. Many thanks to everyone that sponsored us, and especially thanks to Microsoft for adding over £1300 to the total via their employees charity fundraising matching scheme.

Gregg & Paul

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

On Sunday September 30th, rather than washing cars, eating roast dinners and watching the football we will be staggering 13 miles around Newcastle as part of the Great North Run - the largest half marathon in the world.

Hopefully with your help we will be able to raise some money for a little known, but extremely worthy local cause - Rainbows Children's Hospice. The explanation to the left neatly sums up what Rainbows is all about, but if you want to know more just click on the link below. Rainbows relies almost completely on fundraising, not only just to stay in existence but also to buy vital equipment in order to care for the children and the families of children who aren't going to be lucky enough to reach adulthood like we have.

The last time Gregg did a sponsored distance event was at primary school where his mother held his hand as they walked around the school field. Accompanying Gregg this time will be Paul, his brother-in-law, although it's doubtful whether Paul will be so keen to hold hands. Half a marathon doesn't sound as bad as a full one, but Gregg has never managed to run this far in his life and Paul is a little past his peak fitness level when he completed this event a decade or so ago.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Rainbows Children's Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Gregg's employer, Microsoft, have generously pledged to match any funds that he raises. For every penny you give him, Microsoft will give him another one. If you are kind enough to sponsor Gregg, please indicate this in the comments box so that he can receive an equal gift from Uncle Bill. Cheers Bill!

If that isn't enough of an incentive to donate, then here's another. If we raise more than the 500 pounds we are hoping for, Gregg will run in a pair of hideously long yellow shorts (the Banjo-Kazooie ones for those of you who have seen them) and face the jovial insults from thousands of Geordies. If we partake in sufficient Newcastle Brown the night before maybe Paul will agree to wear a pair too!

So please sponsor us now.

Many thanks for any support you can give us,

Gregg & Paul
