The whole team put in a tremedous effort throughout the day and I think it is fair to say everyone dug deep and achieved more than they thought they could.
Despite very poor weather conditions at the start of the walk we made it to the top of Scafell, the appalling visibility (at 6:30am!) did however force a route change. Thankfully by the time we made it to Helvellyn the weather was improving and we were treated to some magnificent views of Thirlmere and Striding Edge. The descent from Helvellyn it has to be said is tough on the knees! However, thanks to sustenance provided by the TNT support team (Raymond and Dave) we were able to follow that with an 8 mile bike ride into Keswick and tackle Skiddaw. The descent from Skiddaw ended the day the way we had started it - in the dark but thankfully without the fog and rain!
A well deserved curry and a beer followed this successful day
Update Monday 9th of August: A great team did a great walk! A full update will be forthcoming WITH PHOTO's in the next couple of days. SPECIAL THANK YOUS to Moira and Alan for their generous hospitality in providing the team with a great pasta party the night before AND to the TNT team on the day - Raymond and Dave. (AND Mrs Dave for the fab sandwiches)...your support was first class!!!
Update 30th July; 1 week to go before The Great Walk
We're all so pleased with the donations so far - a BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO MADE A DONATION, every one makes a difference.
We now have a Team Logo, kindly pulled together by a non-walker...Mr Neil Rudolph of TNT (a big thank you to him) it's been loaded onto the site and you can see it just to the left of this message. We will be sporting t-shirts bearing this logo on the day so if you are out and about in the Lakes keep your eyes peeled and you may spot us!
We are just sorting out our final arrangements for the Great Walk and have all been in training over the last few weeks in the gym, running and cycling. We're just keeping our fingers crossed now for fine weather!
The Great Walk
In the spirit of collaboration the bold and the brave from DWP Commercial Directorate, Capita, TNT and UK Mail have joined together to raise money for charity.
Ten of us aim to walk across the Lake District on August the 7th, covering some 35 miles and around 10,000 feet of ascent (and descent, of course), all within 24 hours. We will be taking in Scafell, Scafell Pike, Broad Crag, Ill Crag, Helvellyn, Lower Man and Skiddaw.
If you’d like to sponsor us on this Great Walk our chosen Charity is the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Sir Bobby Robson fought cancer an incredible five times. He lost that long and courageous battle on 31 July 2009. During the last 18 months of his life, and after retiring from football management, Sir Bobby worked hard towards a new goal - fighting cancer through his charity.
The Foundation focuses on the early detection and treatment of cancer and the clinical trials of new drugs that will eventually beat it.
Now supported by his widow Lady Elsie, sons Paul, Andrew and Mark and patrons including Alan Shearer, the Foundation is continuing its important work in Sir Bobby’s name. http://www.sirbobbyrobsonfoundation.org.uk/
