My story

126km across the oldest desert in the world self supported and with the clock ticking!
Welcome to my next crazy adventure which comes in the form of the Nambia 24Hr Ultra Desert Marathon. In April 2009 I will take part in a race across the desert which will not only be a test of physical endurance but of mental toughness as I tackle 3 marathons back to back  through the heat of the day and into the loneliness of the night.
Now that you are sitting there shaking your heads saying what a dumb idea, well here is the great idea. As part of this event I will be raising money for the No More Land Mines charity who do amazing work clearing land mines and unexploded ordnance in conflict zones around the world long after the fighting has ceased.
Landmines are indiscriminate when choosing their victim with their inability to differentiate between a soldier or a child playing 30 years after the conflict is over. Even more morbid is the fact that they are design to maim and not kill!
It takes £1 to clear 1 square meter of land and every square meter goes to improving the life of innocent people by giving them back their land on which to grow their community, create produce through farming and make their back yard safe in to inhabit again.
No More Landmines is a UK based charity that raises funds to free communities throughout the world from the threat of unexploded weapons of war.  Working in partnership they are able to direct resources to the areas most in need and where intervention produces the maximum benefit.  In addition, to funding humanitarian de-mining, No More Landmines also supports Survivor Assistance and Mine Risk Education Programmes.
In order to meet my fundrasing goal I ask that you each sponsor me a kilometer of my race. 1 km equals  £25 ……… Please remember that each of these kilometers is going to hurt me a lot more than they will cause damage to your pocket. It won’t take much effort to fundraise this sum within your group of friends or work mates. I really appreciate the support both fincially and morally especially as winter sets in with many wet cold and dark training miles ahead.
