The Music Circle is a group of key women from the music industry working in conjunction with Oxfam. They formed in spring this year to discuss ways in which they could use their skills to raise money and awareness for important causes aiding women, including Oxfam’s work in the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo).
Things were kicked things off with a 17 mile sponsored night walk early in October. The money will be used to improve the protection of women subjected to abuse in the eastern DRC. Targeting 56,000 people, the project aims to improve the protection of communities. The funds will provide access to vital services such as urgent medical care and legal support, giving victims the chance to benefit from care that will help them deal with the consequences of abuse.
The Music Circle is a subsidiary of Annie Lennox’s The Circle. Set up in 2008 by Annie and Oxfam, The Circle is a partnership of influential women who bringing ideas, skills and other resources to the table to help Oxfam fight poverty and inequality. To date, The Circle has raised almost a million pounds for Oxfam.
