Story

For those who don't know, Wai and Brendan work together in a funny little lab in St Georges Hospital in Tooting. There they go about trying to discover the mysteries of cancer. When they aren't doing that, Wai is normally trying to tell and prove to people that he can beat them at most activites and sports. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he loses...

So when he asked Brendan how fast he could run a 10K, of course he said he could do it even faster. And hence the Rumble in the Concrete Jungle was born, kicking and screaming into the testosterone-driven fury of this world (drama). With the British 10K London Run looming on the 12th July 2009, we thought this would be the opportunity to race and prove once and for all, who was more full of bull#%&£.

So this is it.... bald vs buffont, belly vs boep, flab vs fat and Asia vs Africa..This is..the Rumble in the Concrete Jungle. 10km of pounding tarmac through stifling heat in central London with thousands of other runners!! One will win, one will lose. This will guarantee bragging rights for a long time.

At the same we thought we could raise some money for a great charity, the Cancer Vaccine Institute. The CVI is the most generous charity that funds our research, which actually gets passed directly onto cancer patients very quickly and has a real impact in peoples' lives.

Please support us and if you can, join us for the day.

From Wai:

Dear all,

In these times of financial hardship, money is something that I cannot give. Instead, having donated my mind to science, I have foolishly taken up the challenge that sees me giving up blood, sweat and tears (in the form of multiple blisters on my pinkies).

In front of me lies 10km of pain - average walking speed is 5km/h, so I aim to complete the course in two and a half hours. This will give me time to stop off for a 30 min siesta halfway around the course (somewhere between Whitehall and Downing Street).

I will be dragging my copious belly around London Town, and hoping not to indulge the efforts of St John's Crew. I pray that it is not the Heart Foundation that I should be supporting rather than Cancer Research.

Please help us to support the Cancer Vaccine Institute. This charity supports work that focuses on developing new therapies to treat cancer. These treatments are different in that they work by boosting the body's natural ability to kill cancer.

Your help is much appreciated - now (ahem!), off to a training session.

Wish me luck!
Wai

From Brendan:

Unlike Wai, Im not going to make excuses and complain about stuff beforehand. I'm going to beat Wai. Someone bring tissues for him, hes going to need them. I think we all know how this is still going to end.....(well-hard talk, that)

Wish him luck!

Brendan
