Swim completed! We arrived at the beautiful Windermere in bright sunshine on Saturday. A huge crowd were there to watch a total of 6000 swimmers set off in waves every half an hour over the day. With swimsuits, wetsuits, vaseline and swim hats all in place, we set off at 4pm into the lake, which did indeed feel icy. Within an hour we were all back on dry land having completed the swim, with wobbly legs and on something of a high! With many grateful thanks to everyone who has given their money to NACOA for this - we are touched by your support, and know the money will be gratefully received by NACOA.

We first decided to join extended family in signing up for the Great North Swim (a one mile swim across Lake Windermere, Cumbria) on a Sunday night back in March when September 12th seemed to be a long time in the future. Our abilities ranged from one regular, early morning, pre-work swimmer, to one member of the family who is unable to float. Since then we have battled with under confidence, over confidence, lack of wetsuit knowledge and fear of cold water, and suddenly we are within 2 weeks of the big day. Training is ongoing with some work still to be done, although much progress has definitely been made.
We are asking friends and family to sponsor us in this endeavour, and we are delighted to be raising these funds for NACOA, a charity with whom we all feel a strong personal connection.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The National Association For Children Of Alcoholics gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor us now!
