My story
The Ubunye Challenge combines 3 endurance events, namely a long distance cycle, an open water swim and an ocean row. The aim of the Ubunye team is to raise money to support development in some of the poorest regions in South Africa and Africa.
Ubunye” is a South African Xhosa word that means “Team Spirit” or “Togetherness”. This word reflects what our challenge is about and how we will look to bring people together from different walks of life to believe that we can make a difference in Africa.
Our mission is to raise money to work towards building communities in some of the poor and most under developed rural areas of Africa. We are joining forces with the Africa Foundation in the UK and Angus Gillis Foundation in South Africa. Both foundations, which have an existing relationship, identify and embark on projects involving African communities; helping them to develop and to empower individuals. The foundations recognize that true development takes place only when communities invest in themselves. This philosophy ties in very closely to the spirit and beliefs of Ubunye.
Ubunye is essentially a challenge that Cameron Bellamy will undertake along with a dedicated and trained team. This challenge will involve a Cycle, a Swim and a Row.
The cycle will be from Land's End to John o' Groats, thereafter he will swim the English Channel and finally undertake, one of the world’s toughest rowing challenges across the Atlantic Ocean, with a team of five. The aim of the Atlantic row will be to break the current record for the fastest crossing.

Charity Registration No. 1092616

The Africa Foundation facilitates the empowerment and development of people living in or adjacent to protected areas in Southern and East Africa. We fund projects based on the needs within the communities specifically in the following three areas:

* _Education_ (http://www.africafoundation.org/) - school improvement, bursary schemes, conservation lessons

* _Healthcare_ (http://www.africafoundation.org/) - primary healthcare centres, HIV/AIDs awareness programmes, access to water, sanitation

* _Income Generating Activities_ (http://www.africafoundation.org/)

- agricultural projects, skills centres, entrepreneurial support A key Africa Foundation aim is to help break the cycle of poverty. We therefore seek to support projects that combine to provide a ‘conveyor belt’ of resources from pre-natal care, right the way through to university bursaries.
