Joe Williams and Tom Clark are driving from Lands End to John O`Groats in the trusty Thunderbird 2 (1990 Mercedes 190E) raising money for the Children With Cancer Fund based in Polegate.
Thunderbird 2 is one of the teams taking part in a banger rally which means the cars have to cost less than £150. The Thunderbird was purchased for £25 four years ago for another banger rally and has completed one every summer since raising money for various charities. The car had been previously owned by the Turkish embassy and wasnt registered with the DVLA as the diplomatic registration had been removed, this meant it was destined for the scrap heap as it was quite a lengthy process to register it but with a bit of time we had a road worthy car that cost less than a tank of fuel.
We are travelling to Lands End on Sunday 15th August for the start on Monday, the drive is spread over 5 days and takes in a challenging route through Wales and around the edge of Scotland avoiding the Easy motorway route. If all goes well we should arrive in John O`Groats on Friday 20th August.
The plan is to stay at compsites along the way with stop overs at Lands End, Usk, Festiniogg, Keswick, Drumnadrochit and finally John O`Groats.
The theme of Thunderbirds was also used last year for a rally around Europe however it turned out Thunderbirds was not shown in Europe, this meant no-one actually had a clue what we were dressed up like. We descided that driving in the UK would suit the theme and was worth looking really stupid yet again in aid of raising some money for charity.
All costs of the rally have been paid for by Joe and Tom so every penny donated will go to the charity and even if you can only donate a small amount it all helps and is gratefully received. We will be dressed up in theme as well which also involves us going into petrol stations, shops and cafes so will get a lot of odd looks, this alone should be worth a donation.
We will hopefully be able to upload photos along the way so come back and see the progress and how stupid we look in costume.

CWCF was set up in 1998 by Ursula & Chris Downton with Kirsty (Ursula’s sister) & James Denny. Now with the help of other friends and family we still go out having fun raising funds to grant wishes to local children and their families who have had or are suffering from cancer that live in East Sussex, Brighton & Hove.
