May 2nd , the day of the 2009 Century Cycle Challenge dawned to perfect cycling conditions. Bright and sunny and, most importantly no adverse headwinds! The Thursday Gentlemens' GS team, by now honed and fit after many hours of training, were all able to complete their minimum committed "legs" with some ease and the total distances achieved by individual riders ranged from 50 to 80+ miles.
The good weather enabled us to keep up a very respectable pace and we reached the lunch break well ahead of the scratch teams who had started out at later time intervals. We all arrived at our prearranged but "unofficial "beer stop some 5 miles from the finish over 3/4 of an hour ahead of schedule . we then took a wrong turn and added 2 miles to the final leg!
A massive "Thank You " to all our sponsors is due from all of us. As you can see we have raised nearly £7.400 with gift aid added, far more than we expected. I understand that the total raised so far has exceeded £60,000 - with more still coming in.
A hugely worthwhile cause has benefited - and the TGGS went on their annual tour last week with a spring in their steps!
