My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page

I AM NOW IN UGANDA! FOLLOW MY BLOG AT;      UGANDARAW.BLOGSPOT.COM

For all those who know me you will know how much I have always wanted to help the children out in Africa. I've found an awesome charity and now is a great time for me to go to Africa and be there for those kids.. but I really need your help..

In July 2009, I will be taking part in a 8-week not-for-profit volunteering programme under the auspices of UK registered charity HOPE for Children (http://www.hope-for-children.org/; registered charity number: 1041258).

I will be working full time to help the orphans and slum-dwelling children in Namuwongo, Uganda. These children are some of the most neglected in the world, many have been abandoned on the streets by both parents and are in desperate need. I will be going out to help these children through for example teaching and care-giving. Giving this practical help as well as love and attention will make a huge difference and demonstrate to these people that the outside world actually cares. This in itself can help transform lives.

I need to raise £2,500 to go which includes, food/flight/accommodation, transport and an in-country coordinator. Most importantly, these programmes are entirely not-for-profit - any money left over from this programme will go to directly to fund the projects I will be working on, as will any money I raise over £2,500.

HOPE is an international children’s charity working with disabled, orphaned and exploited children in thirty countries worldwide. The majority of their work is in Africa and Asia although they also work in Europe, including the UK. HOPE was set up specifically to help the most needy in grassroots-level projects. Importantly, HOPE operates by partnering with local NGOs to ensure need is met locally.

Examples of HOPE’s work include providing prosthetic limbs to children disabled by landmines in Sri Lanka, special equipment for disabled children in the UK and funding for street children centres in Zambia, India, Zimbabwe and the Philippines. For inspiration and further examples of their work please visit their website http://www.hope-for-children.org/.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Hope for Children gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

I know its a difficult time financially for everyone but these children are in desperate states and even a small donation from you will make a big impact on their lives. So, please dig deep and sponsor me online, and together we can make a difference.

Thanks so much for your support, it really means a lot to me.

Tiarna xx
