It started off as something that was discussed around the dining table one Sunday afternoon; Andi mentioned to Tim that he was thinking about running the Brighton Marathon in April 2010. Tim mentioned that it was something that he would like to train for and set a goal himself.
2 days later on the Tuesday Tim text Andi mentioning that he had signed up for the Brighton Marathon in April 2010; this gave Andi no choice but to do.
So here we are all booked in for the Brighton Marathon 2010.
The Bevern View Trust
The Charity, we have decided to run for is Bevern Trust. The Bevern Trust is a local charity for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities. The purpose built bungalow situated in a small Sussex village called Barcombe can have up to 7 people staying there at any one time. All the residents come from a 20 mile radius from the house.
The main reason for us running for this local charity is to help raise money for a new hydrotherapy pool that will allow the residents to participate in water based physiotherapy which can improve muscle and joint function, increase strength and range of motion as well as providing an opportunity for relaxation, enjoyment and social inclusion.
Tim's sister-in-law Sarah regularly has respite at Bevern View. She has Rett Syndrome (A complex neurological disorder) and is in a wheelchair unable to walk, with very stiff muscles and joints. She has been fortunate to have hydrotherapy sessions in Brighton with Jo and David her physios.
Hydrotherapy is the only time that Sarah is completely free from the restrictions of wheelchairs and slings, she has a natural buoyancy and the water enables her to comfortably move joints that are otherwise hard to move. She really enjoys her hydrotherapy sessions especially the way they help to relax her body.
There are very, very limited hydrotherapy pools in this area and this will make such a difference to everyone at the home. By running for this charity we will assist the trust in ensuring they achieve their goal of purchasing a hydrotherapy pool.
So please dig deep and help us reach our goal to raise as much money as possible for this excellent and worthy charity.
Many thanks for your support.
Andi Marfleet & Tim Bowry.
