On the 4th July I cycled 130 miles around Berkshire to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Charity and in memory of my Dad who suffered from the disease for many years. I'm really grateful of your support for my ride.
The ride started near my home at Arborfield Garrison, near Reading, at 5:17 am, heading out west through Mortimer and Aldermaston, onto the outskirts of Thatcham and Newbury, and on to Hungerford some 3 hours later. Then it turned north a while to Lambourn and then east through Eastbury and the Berkshire Downs, Tidmarsh and so on to Tilehurst and into Reading where I had a lun ch break after 80 miles hard riding.
Continuing east after lunch, my route took me through Woodley, Charvil and White Waltham before reaching Windsor, where a ride through Windsor Great Park set up the final leg west through North Ascot and Bracknell before arriving home in Arborfield Garrison recreation ground. Despite cramp hurting badly for the last few miles, I pushed through to finish the route with a ride time of 10h 45mins - or 14 hours including breaks.
This wasn't an organised ride - just something I've been wanting to do for some time, which really stretched me to my limits. I had done a few practice runs, the longest of which were on the weekend of the 6th June (my Dad's birthday) to see how feasible this was for a one day ride and to map out the route, but still I wasn't prepared for quite how hard this was going to be!
