We are a world-leading charity at the forefront of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). We are an independent charity. It costs over £15.2M a year to sustain our world-leading, cutting edge, innovative service and amazingly 86% comes from the incredible generosity of our supporters.

Story

Thanks for visiting my page. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Surrey Air Ambulance gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

This is a self-funded trip as part of www.endurohimalaya.com . Do please have a look at this website to see what we are up to. We leave 17th August for two weeks and are crossing the Himalayas on Royal Enfields (motorcycles). Don't worry, I'll wear lots of body armour and I am assured that the altitude will not affect my titanium bits!

I booked this trip just before my car accident in Feb 2008. Four other like minded friends and I booked this trip, or 'expedition', as we considered it one one of those things one has to do and experience (seemed sensible at the time).

The plan however took on a very new meaning after the accident and was one of many incentives and motivating factors to focus on during recovery. Anyone who has experienced similar will appreciate what an important part mindset is in the recovery process. Short term goals follow the basics of survial and family, but as the weeks move on I felt the need to set more ambitious goals and this has always remained one.

I have been consistently encouraged by friends and family to 'just do it', and decided some months ago that there is also the opportunity to bring focus and funding to Surrey Air Ambulance in the process. As a 'customer' of theirs at the time of the accident I owe them alot (understatement). I could say the same for the IC unit at Whitechapel, and the various hospitals and staff all the way through the process. Surrey Air Ambulance does however stand alone in its operation and funding.

My accident was not from any heroics or particular mis-fortune - it was an accident in the car on the way to work that could have happened to anyone. Surrey and all air-ambulance services rely on private and donated funding. I know we all get alot of these requests but... please help do your bit as whilst I am doing this trip regardless, it does bring me a special meaning and purpose if helping with this rather un-sung community service that could benefit anyone at any time.

You should find the details of my story at www.surreyairambulance.co.uk . The site is due to be updated so if I don't appear yet under 'my stories' then I will be there shortly.

Thank you, TIM

p.s. small print: The justgiving website cannot return funds donated and like all overseas adventures there is always the faint possibility that something happens between now and the trip start that, at worst, could mean cancellation. Unlikely, but I wanted you to be aware. The charity may refund in the unlikely event we are faced with this.
