After my experience of running London last year, it took me approximately 10 hours before I ventured onto the website to enter again. I was accepted through the ballot in October, which was exactly the "pick me up" motivation I needed after a muddled year of ill health. I entered the marathon to run a pb. I entered to experience the training and ensure I can lead by example with my clients. I entered because the crowds that line the course generate so much energy that you can't help but keep your head high when the pain is filtering through.

Last year I ran to help pace Billie Clarke through the course. Billie, running a PB of 3:41, raised an amazing amount of £12,000 along the way, for CLIC Sergeant. A charity dedicated to helping Children with Cancer. Ellis, Billies sister had been diagnosed when she was 12 and had been in and out of hospital constantly undergoing all the relevant therapies.

Ellis passed away last year after a 4 year, "no holds barred" fight and I can only say that her ambition to lead an energetic, youthful and happy life was abundant for all to see. The family have continued to support and praise the various organisations since Ellis left us. They have set up the Ellis Harriet Clarke Memorial Trust and are very active in raising funds to help children in similar positions as Ellis, along with the organisations that so desperatley need the financial support to continue delivering the high quality service they provide.

So, for all the personal bests, buzz from the crowds and valuable experience in training that I can pass on - in reality there's a more important goal that needs achieving. Raise as much money as possible in the memory of Ellis, and my own Uncle Tommy who passed away last year with cancer. We all know someone who has been affected. Keep giving because it will make a difference.

I will run as hard as I can. If you are up for it, then sponsor me more if I break 2:45?
If you are up for it, get your runners on and start training for next year.

Best Wishes and Thanks

Richard Titch O'Connor
