Two years ago whilst in Kenya with Catalyst Trust, I met Pastor Sammy who used to be a street boy in the district of Nakuru. His extraordinary story of how God took him from being a street boy to now running an orphanage and school is truly inspirational. After getting to know him and the organisation he runs, Rain Edge (which is connected with Catalyst Urban Trust), I felt compelled to find a way to raise money for them. There is a tremendous need for better nutrition and there is an opportunity for the charity to buy land around the orphanage so that they will be able to grow their own crops, and sell some to help towards wages. Recently someone has raised money for a borehole and this will provide a steady flow of irrigation.

One-third of the money raised will go to the Catalyst Trust who seek to alleviate gang crime in inner cities in the UK. Each year the Trust takes out a group of lads associated with various gangs around London and Oxford who are seeking to turn their lives around.

So ... we have organised a team of friends who share this vision to kayak round Cornwall.

This challenge will start on 8th July from the Plymouth Estuary and then carry on down around Lands End, and finish in Bude. The trip totals around 220 miles and the team plan to complete it in 10 days. We will be camping on beaches and campsites during this time.

The team will be supported on land mainly by a friend Alex Peters and Carl and Pastor Sammy from Kenya. They will be a tremendous help to the team in organising food and encouragement.

Here are a few examples of what  your support could do:

£10 would provide high quality high yielding seeds for one plot of land £30 will provide 200 metres worth of irrigation piping £50 could provide one meal for 130 children in the Sure 24 Saturday Feeding Programme £100 will provide two water filters to clean water from the bore hole (money for which was raised on a previous trip last year) £200 will pay for a well needed book keeping course for Pastor Sammy £1200 will buy a plot of land that could sustain 10 families £7000 for a salary for one Catalyst Trust worker in the Hackney Estate in London

Our team target is £21,000 that is to pay for a youth worker in hackney and £14,000 for the orphanage to buy agricultural land and start planting and irrigation

Thank you for your interest and support - it means so much to us all
