This year I'm taking on the challenge of trying to break the Guinness World Record for the 'Worlds Longest Team Endurance Drum-A-Thon'. A team of 17 drummers and myself all from Nexus will be attempting to smash the current world record of 60 hours, and raise it to a massive 64 hours!!!!!
All the drummers have to be playing at the same time, so there will be 18 drum-kits set up and each drummer will hopefully complete all 64 hours.
I'm sure you can appreciate the hard work that will be going into this, playing drums continuously for nearly 3 days will not only be physically draining and painful but will mentally be the biggest challenge I've ever faced.
The event will start in the morning of Sunday May 3rd and we aim to finish sometime on Tuesday evening, around 9pm.
Putting aside the obvious physical challenges of sleep depravation, noise pollution, swollen wrists, fingers, and knees, light-headedness and hallucinations. Our hope for this event is that what we learn about ourselves and about being a part of a community of people will be something that we can carry with us and learn from for the rest of our lives.
All the proceeds that are raised through this event will go to Nexus Trust.
