My story
I have been raising money for charity by climbing all the 'Wainwright' summits in the Lake District. I climbed the last fell, Wansfell, with my brother James and Mummy and Daddy on August 17th, aged 6 years 4 months exactly, which makes me one of the youngest people ever to do it. You can see a report on BBC Look North. After finishing the last Wainwright in August, my Daddy and I climbed all the summits we had done before 2008 again, so we did all 214 in 2008.
My biggest walk was on August 16th, when we climbed Lingmell, Seathwaite Fell, Great End, Scafell Pike, Scafell and Slight Side: 15 miles and 6,000 feet of climbing. My favourite fells were Bowfell, where I climbed up through a cave, Yewbarrow and Kirk Fell, because I had to do lots of scrambling and Walla Crag which was the first one I climbed with James. Altogether I have walked 480 miles and climbed over 150,000 feet.
I climbed my first Wainwrights, Loft Crag and Pike o'Stickle, in October 2005 when I was 3½ years old, and have loved climbing mountains ever since, so this year me and my Daddy decided to try and complete all 214 fells and raise money for two important causes: my other fundraising page is for the Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust and this one is for Community Action Nepal.
Community Action Nepal is a mountaineers' charity set up by Doug Scott, the famous Himalayan climber, to help people in Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world. This charity helps these mountain people to build health centres, schools and clean water supplies. I feel very lucky to live in a country where there are good doctors, hospitals and schools and where I can have fun climbing mountains with my Daddy. Please give as much as you can to help me raise lots of money to improve life for some of the poorest people in the world. Doug Scott climbed Hallin Fell with me when I was near the end of the challenge.
When I was born, I was very poorly indeed and the doctors did not think that I would be able to recover fully. However, with the help of the doctors and nurses at the Jessop Wing, I did recover and I am very lucky to be able to run around and climb mountains. My older sister Catherine was not so lucky: she was born very prematurely and died when she was only two days old, but she and my Mummy were looked after very well in the Jessop Hospital. To say thank you to the people at the hospital and to help other children and their families when they are in hospital, I want to raise lots of money. Please visit my other fundraising page and give as much as you can!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and secure. It’s an efficient way to sponsor me: Community Action Nepal gets your money quickly and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. Justgiving charges a fee which will be deducted from the amount you donate.
My target was to raise £1,000 for each charity, but I have passed that, and my second target of £2,000, but I'd still like to raise even more money so please keep donating!
Thankyou
Tom
