The Kilworth Challenge · 29 April 2008

We are a charity providing educational outdoor adventure activities for disadvantaged and disabled young people of all abilities. Our main focus is children with special needs including young people with autism, Asperges Syndrome, Downs Syndrome, the hearing and vision impaired and a range of physically disabled young people including wheelchair users. Many of our young people suffer from one or more of the above. We also run courses for disadvantaged primary and secondary school children from mainstream schools in poor inner city areas. Our aim is to ensure that all young people, regardless of ability, special need or disadvantage, are given the opportunity to experience quality outdoor education, in a safe environment, to improve not only their physical fitness but their confidence and self esteem to enable them to meet the challenges of everyday life, today and in the future. We have recently completed an all weather wheelchair friendly sports area and upgraded the entrance paths to our sensory garden to make wheelchair access easier. Our next challenge is to raise the funds to build a state of the art indoor climbing wall with unique and specific provision for non ambulent youngsters, which will demonstrate to other organisations and individuals what we at Dukes Barn already know, that being physically disabled does not mean being excluded from exciting and healthily competitive sporting pastimes.

Story

Hello again and thank you for visiting our fundrasing page.

This years Kilworth Challenge has its largest field again of 42 teams, all taking part in the gruelling 2 day multi challenge event that takes its competitors and organisers through miles of rural south leicestershire countryside.

Last year as a team we rasied over £1700 thanks to your help and are aiming to smash that total this time around. The event raised £80,000 last year, taking its total to well over £500,000 since it began.

We again promise to sweat (easier for some), bleed, freeze, get wet (have really large bandages for tiny cuts) and taste Leicestershire's finset cow produce for your kind donations to this very worthy cause.

The biggest challenge of all is to raise more money for chairty than the other teams, and as we have won the overall challenge two years in a row the other 41 teams are out to beat us.

We need your help! Please give whatever you can to this fantastic charity and make sure you claim the gift aid when doing so.

Thanks for your suppport again this year, feel free to come support, jeer or laugh at us over the 24th and 25th of May.
