My story

Hi there

My name is Tommy and I am 3 at the end of November.  My mum and dad tell me that I am very special!  .I am so special that at the moment i am the only child in the whole of the UK with my type of brain cancer, which is called Anaplastic Oligodendra Glioma, Grade III.

My condition was diagnosed very late on as they were treating me for a type of epilepsy, so for nearly 18 months my brain tumour lay undetected and was growing in my head.  When it was eventually found, it was a third the size of my brain (about the size of a grapefruit).  This made everbody very scared. I had a very long 11 hour operation to remove some of the tumour but this has left me with a weakness down my left side.  Through a lot of hard work I have learned to walk again but  can't use my left arm properly anymore, and I am having difficulty learning to talk.

My cancer is very aggressive.  The chemo I was on worked for a while but now my cancer is out of control and my prognosis is not good.  Research needs to be done into my type of tumour so that the doctors can learn from me.

My consultant, Professor RICHARD GRUNDY works very hard trying to make me better as do all the nurses and hospital staff at the North Staffs Hospital but it is all the hard work that the CHILDRENS BRAIN TUMOUR RESEARCH CENTRE does that help me and other children like me and keeps us smiling.

Please help us by donating lots of money so that more research can be carried out and more cures can be found. My mummy and daddy and lots of other people have allready raised nearly £9000 so far, so here is your chance to make a differance please give whatever  you can and remember it's the small things we do, that make the big things happen.

The money raised will go mainly towards under/postgraduate training programmes, purchasing vital pieces of equipment and most importantly research in a wide range of fields to optimise the chances of earlier diagnosis and of cures whilst minimising the risk of disability.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online, please be sure to tick the "it's my money " box so the tax can be claimed back on it.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Children's Brain Tumour Research will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.If you have any problems donating please call the helpdesk on 0845 021 2110 they are open mon-fri 9am to 6pm.
