I'm taking part in the Thomas May Executive Quest, raising money for Prostaid and LOROS.
For the first time ever, in 2011 prostate cancer in men overtook breast cancer in women as the most common form of cancer in the UK. Affecting mostly men over the age of 45, it is fast becoming an epidemic...
I lost someone very close to me through prostate cancer on 7th September. As well as being my father in law, Harry Lawson was a close friend. We shared many interests and would often talk at length about all sorts of random subjects! I witnessed his suffering up close, and was surprised at the lack of specialist care he received (Harry lived in West Sussex). So for me, it's in my friend Harry's memory that I undertake this challenge.
My challenge for the Thomas May Executive Quest 2011
You've probably heard of the '60 minute makeover' – well I'm doing a '60 hour makeover' of the children’s reading room at the LOROS book shop in Leicester.
The childrens reading room is currently very dingy and tatty. The staff at the shop have done the best with limited resources, but if I'd like to transform this room into somewhere children we want to go to and enjoy using.
All of the materials are being kindly donated by local suppliers. All of the money I raise will be donated directly to Prostaid and LOROS.
My challenge is to transform the room in sixty hours – starting at 8pm on Friday 21 October, to be finished by 8am on Monday 24 October. I will have a small team of helpers, but will be doing most of the work myself!
The whole thing is being filmed, so that everyone can have a good laugh watching me actually do some real work!
So please give as much as you can, it really will make a huge difference to people who are suffering now. Thank you for taking the time to read this, your support is greatly appreciated.
