Stage 1: Time Trial of L’Alpe d’Huez The infamous climb of the Alpe d’Huez features strongly in many previousTours . Starting in Bourg D’Oisans (730 metres), the climb ascends to the summit at 1860 metres (6,102 ft), via 21 switchbacks in 14 kilometres. The most recent winner of this stage as a time trial was Lance Armstrong in the 2004 tour.

Quote from this years race: “At 2645 metres, the mighty Galibier is by common consent the toughest climb in the race’s history“. (Daily Telegraph). The team Tony Law Tony is an IT consultant working in the City. I have been cycling pretty much continuously since 5 years old, and am a member of my local cycling club. My main hobby is Triathlon, and I have represented great britain in 4 World and 1 European Triathlon championships at the Age Group level. I am very pleased to be able to help raise money for this charity, I was very moved when I heard the story of the Tsunami orphans, and also know that every penny raised will help these disadvantaged children. Fran Presho Fran (a fitness instructor and a mother of two little tinkers) and Suzane rode from London to Paris together, and were looking for another challenge. Fran met Gill who helped form "Hands across the water" and was deeply moved by this incredible womans commitment to these children in Thailand who had been forgotten after the tsunami. Fran grew up in Thailand, so it is a place close to her heart. 'everytime things get tough, these children will drive us on'. Suzanne Dargie
