We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to stop women dying from breast cancer.

Story

Dear all,

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. As you all know, I am incredibly passionate and committed to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support since I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago. Although my mum and auntie previously had breast cancer, it was still a massive shock to discover I had it at such a young age.

Whilst the word cancer didn't scare me due to my scientific background, being faced with this disease challenged everything I did as a young woman. I had not expected to be diagnosed at such a young age and before finding a partner and having a family. As very few young people are diagnosed with breast cancer, you often feel very isolated as most of the women that you meet in hospital are much older and their issues are different. Every part of the treatment makes you very aware of the delicate thread of life but treatment has vastly improved over the last 10 years, mainly due to research sponsored by charities such as Breast Cancer Campaign.

This year, on the eve of almost quitting the triathlon, I was invited to be part of Linford's All Stars team for Breast Cancer Campaign. I've now committed to completing the triathlon to Linford and Breast Cancer Campaign despite massively struggling with my fitness and training due to injuries and treatment.

I was lucky enough to be invited to Breast Cancer Campaign's Scientific conference last year and was totally moved by how many projects and scientists are working on breast cancer research through funds raised by the charity. Not only were there groups researching medical treatment, but also physcholgical and emotional support which truly touched me to the point of tears as this work was so relevant to people like me.

I am competing in the Olympic distance for the triathlon which consists of 1.5km swim in the Thames, 40km bike ride and 10km run. As most of you know, whilst I am very active, I've never been an athlete and this is a real challenge for me. I would love you to be there to support me, especially as it is my birthday the next day! The event is held at and around the Excel centre.
