Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
I was unaware of just how precious and fragile your lungs are until I lost my younger brother in June 2007. Allan was a fit and healthy 24 year old with everything to live for when he developed Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) after a long and complicated operation.
ARDS can be triggered by a number of causes such as a chest infection, pneumonia or injuries from an accident. Since there is no known treatment for ARDS itself, the rest of the treatment is aimed at supporting the patient while the lungs get better on their own. In general, patients with ARDS need care on an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and may need the help of a breathing machine (ventilator). Although doctors are getting better at treating ARDS, about a third of patients will still not survive.
I am running the Albert Bartlett Edinburgh Marathon on 31st May 2009 to support the British Lung Foundation Scotland, so that maybe one day other families do not have to suffer the same heartbreaking consequences of losing a loved one.
Please help by donating through Justgiving. It is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Lung Foundation Scotland & Northern Ireland gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now! xxx
