Story
Leo James Good is my son, my beautiful son who died on 14th Feb 2010 from Meningococcal Septicaemia. This deadly disease destroyed my son, ripping through his body in a few hours with no warning.
For those of you who know me, you will maybe have an idea how hard the last 5 years have been. However, it feels like it happened only yesterday and so this challenge, and the training required, is a significant feat for me to consider, never mind actually undertake.
Colin Houston, my wonderful brother who has supported me so amazingly along with my family, will be accompanying me every step of the way and probably pulling me up most of the slopes! Thanks Colin.
The TrekFest Brecon Beacons Challenge is 54 miles in 24 hours, an extreme physical workout and a psychologically taxing challenge. We will cross the highest peaks in the Beacons and South Wales including Pen y Fan (886m), Corn Du (873m), Cribyn (795m) and Fan y Big (719m).
I am doing this to remember Leo, to raise awareness of the devastation that this disease causes. It gives no warning and no time to say goodbye. I have to live without that gorgeous smile greeting meet because of this silent killer. No-one should have to go through this.
The Meningitis Research Foundation provides support for families in my situation but they also undertake research into prevention, detection and treatment of meningitis and septicaemia.
