My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. As you may know my son has Type I diabetes and my father Type II.

Diabetes is a condition that affects every organ system. Type I is an autoimmune disease caused by the body’s destruction of its own beta cells, which live within islet cells in the pancreas.  People with type 1 diabetes have a constant battle to maintain relatively normal blood glucose levels. Too low then hypoglycemia results which leads to disorientation, aggressive behavior, loss of consciousness and in some cases, death. Too high (hyperglycaemia) and lapsing into a coma is possible; and complications such as heart disease, kidney failure, amputation, blindness and circulatory problems could result in later life. Life expectancy is also reduced by up to fifteen years.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me. Many thanks for your support.
