Thanks for visiting the fundraising page of the UCARE Kilimanjaro Challenge Team.
The person who came up with the idea of hiking up Kilimanjaro is Jonathan. After having survived testicular cancer twice he wanted to give something back by supporting research and education into urological cancers. He also wanted to prove that you can carry on doing challenging things after you've been ill.
Andrew also wanted to take on this challenge for very personal reasons. About 3 years ago he had a rare case of testicular cancer and complications resulted in him loosing his right leg below the knee. "I feel that just because I've lost my leg I'm no different from anyone else and so this is the challenge for me!" he says.
As well as raising money, the team is raising awareness about testicular, prostate, kidney and bladder cancers. Some of these cancers are difficult to talk about, especially those affecting men.
"It's important to raise awareness of urological cancers so that they are diagnosed at an early stage. There is so much that can be done with some of the modern treatments available." Dr Andy Protheroe, UCARE Trustee
Thank you for sponsoring us. We really appreciate it.
