About UCLH Charity

UCLH NHS Foundation Trust has a reputation for innovation and patient-focused care, with ambitions to be a world-class centre for clinical services, teaching and research. Its hospitals treat local residents, commuters and visitors to the area, and also provide highly specialised services for patients referred from across the UK and from abroad. General donations to UCLH Charity will be used to support a variety of projects which contribute to keeping the Trust at the forefront of clinical excellence.

We have recently provided support for the following:

• £4m spent on equipping the new flagship UCH hospital.

• A new interventional MRI unit which scans patients during surgery and aims to improve the treatment of brain tumours, vascular abnormalities and functional surgery. The unit is the first of its kind in the UK.

• Picture archiving and communications system – allowing medical staff to access images such as MRI and CT scans, X-rays and ultrasound scans electronically, saving time and money transporting and storing physical patient records.

• Installation of a new PET CT scanner to optimize the quality of images whilst also using lower doses to reduce risks to patients.

• The development of an animated virtual 3D model of the heart for use on a personal computer. This will be an invaluable aid in the teaching and understanding of cardiac anatomy, and will have widespread applications in teaching at every level.

• Modernisation of the outpatient consulting suite at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases. We have provided proper isolation facilities to enable patients with suspected community acquired infectious diseases to be seen in a much improved environment.

• Ongoing support for academic research projects which have potential to develop new therapies for treating and curing patients.

UCLH Charity is the official body to receive donations and legacies in relation to UCLH NHS Foundation Trust, and is one of the largest NHS charities in the country. UCLH Charity exists to provide support for patients and staff through training, additional equipment, improvements to clinical services and supporting pioneering research projects within the Trust.
