I am swimming the distance of 22 miles in a lake in Barton (Staffordshire).
I then go to Lands End, (put my feet in the sea) and then cycle the 1000 miles to John O Groats.
Again once my feet have got wet at John O Groats we go to St Bees.
Feet in the sea at St Bees and then I run 194 miles across the country to and the challenge finishes when I get to the sea for the final time.
This event is news worthy for a number of reason in that it has never been done before so my time will be a benchmark. The distance is massive and everyone can understand and comprehend the distance. Also I will be supported by my wife Nicole our two children Joseph (aged 8) and Daniel (aged 3) and our spaniel (aged 2 and a bit). Many of our friends and their children and dogs will be in the convoy of support vehicles and accompany me in the water, on the bike and on foot ! The idea is that I have company for the entire route.
The idea is to have fun and show the children some of our beautiful country they have not seen before and to raise a substantial sum of money for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital charity..
We are writing a book about the event which is targeted at the 6 - 11 year age group. The book will promote exercise, healthy living through diet and regular educational staples such as geography (re route) and maths relating to the various distances involved in the event. A very famous illustrator has agreed to work with us on the book.
I am a 38 years and not a mechanical triathlete but a very normal family man who wants to show that with a little hard work you can achieve anything and have fun doing so !. To be a positive role model and not parents who think shopping and fast food is the answer and children will always be impressed by their parents sporting achievements no matter how large or small and if they see their parents exercising regularly and eating well then the values will hopefully pass on and become the norm.
I have completed a number of extreme distance challenges and have no doubt that I will be able to complete the distance. It all about forward motion. The pain is inevitable and unavoidable but it is how I deal with the pain that will be the difference between success and failure.
