Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. As some of
you will recall, last year I set myself the task of running five long
distance races in five weeks (which eventually
became six races in six weeks - albeit the sixth race was only a 10k!). Having
thoroughly enjoyed the challenge I've decided to up the ante this year.
The schedule (subject to additions!) is:
6 September - Kent
Coastal marathon
12
September - Three2Go marathon - trail marathon following the River Lee from
Hertfordshire and finishing on Hackney Marshes near the site of the 2012 Olympic
Stadium
19
September - Mile
and 400m races on the track (much needed cut-back week - although legs may not
appreciate attempts to sprint after two
marathons!)
26
September - JW
Ultra (a 30 miler along canal towpaths from Stratford Upon Avon to
Bournville)
4
October - Loch
Ness marathon
11
October - Great
Eastern Run (a half marathon around the streets of )
18
October - Abingdon marathon
24
October - Beachy Head marathon (hilly trail
marathon)
1
November - Billericay
10k
8 November - Stebbing 10 (added 13.8.09)
This year I
will be running for the Alzheimer's Society. There
are over 100 types of dementia - the most common are Alzheimer's disease,
vascular dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies. Symptoms include loss of
memory, confusion and problems with speech and understanding. Dementia is one
of the main causes of disability in later life, ahead of cancer, cardiovascular
disease and stroke. Over 700,000 people have dementia in the UK, this figure
will rise to over 1 million by 2025.
The
Alzheimer's Society are the UK's leading support services and research charity
for people with dementia and those who care for them. They support people
by:
- - Providing
information and support for people with all kinds of dementia and their
carers.
- - Funding
research into the cause, care, cure and prevention of dementia.
- - Providing
learning resources and training.
- - Campaigning
for improved health and social care.
- - Improving
public understanding and awareness of dementia.
If anyone would like to help me on my
way, and help me raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society, then any donations will
be greatly appreciated.
