In 2006, Rev. Ian Smart visited Nepal. The poverty and the suffering (beyond anything that we could even dare to imagine) that he witnessed whilst he was there compelled him to do something about it upon his return. He wanted to make a long term difference, not just 'a quick fix' that would make him feel better. This led to him (and some others from Royston) setting up the charity UNCLE. The charity exists to assist with the funding of orphanages in Nepal, helping to provide food, shelter, education and medical fees (all basic rights that we, in this country, take for granted) for the children in the orphanages. It also helps to fund the Christian Church in Nepal, funding the building of a Church in which to worship and also assisting them to run the orphanages. It costs approximately £430 to run an orphanage for one month. Your generosity as you donate to this charity will change the lives of the people there. Thank you for your kindness.
We felt that the challenge of cycling the coast to coast would give our 'mother/daughter team' a good fitness incentive, a great experience and the chance to raise money for this worthy cause.
