I MADE IT!
After setting off from Land's End on September the 5th, our journey was underway; we triumphed over the hills of Cornwall and Devon, antisocial youths in Bridgwater, sunburn and reckless land train drivers in Weston-super-Mare, and we even met and cycled with Dave Gorman in Carlisle shortly before making it into Scotland. Unfortunately, Max had to leave in Dundee (because of his PhD and work commitments; certainly not lack of willpower!). However, I pushed on alone for 5 days before meeting up with my lovely girlfriend in Inverness. She cycled (on a bike) the last 3 days with me up to John O'Groats. The trip took 26 days in total – significantly more than the planned 20, as we ended up doing around 40 miles per day rather than the 50 we'd hoped for – and it was an incredible experience.
Thank you so much to everybody we met along the way for your love and support; you made the trip so worthwhile. I feel as if we left a long string of amused, inspired and amazed people up the country, as well as made some great new friends. I'm so happy that it all worked out; it's great to have met you all.
If you'd like to make a post-event donation, don't hesitate!
Women's Aid is an important charity for me because as a committed feminist, I want to help women and children who have been harmed by domestic violence - I think that doing something so absurd and visible is the perfect thing to counteract the often invisible nature of domestic problems.
Donating via Justgiving is easy and completely safe; by sponsoring me here you not only ensure that Women's Aid receives the money you sponsor me with as quickly as possible, but also have the opportunity to add Gift Aid; for UK taxpayers, this adds 28% to whatever amount you donate at no extra cost! I'm setting £3,000 as a tentative, ambitious target; the more we can raise for Women's Aid the better.
Thank you very much!
