About United Response

People with learning difficulties are amongst the most socially excluded and vulnerable groups in Britain today. Their voices are rarely heard in public. This needs to change" - The Learning Disability White Paper: Valuing People

About United Response

United Response does not define people with labels. It believes that every individual has the right to be valued as a citizen and treated with dignity and respect. Some of the things we help people to do are taken for granted by many of us, but are crucial aspects of living a fulfilling life. Here are some ideas of what we do:

Living in a home with people you choose

"I've become much more confident since I moved into my shared house. I like to keep myself busy and to be my own boss." Nadeem Malik, Middlesbrough

Communicating needs, preferences and aspirations

"This year has been a very big year for me. I recently finished writing my life story, Uphill Struggle." David Boyes, Leeds

Taking part in the local community

"I signed at the George pub karaoke night." Susan Willie, Ipswich

Enjoying leisure and social activities

"I like sketching because you get a result in a limited timespan. It's important for me to do something I have to think about." Chris West, Sussex

Taking advantage of a range of supported employment opportunities

"I got a job with UR in Business. I like this job better than my last because we work as a team." Adele Done, Greater Manchester

United Response was founded in 1973 by Su Sayer OBE, the current chief executive. It is a devolved organisation with four Divisions - North East, North West, South East and South West - each with a divisional director.

United Response supports around 1,500 people in more than 200 different locations with around 2,500 full and part-time staff.
