On 19 October 2010 our lives changed forever when we were told that my little brother had been killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) whilst serving in Afghanistan.  He was just 24 years old and taken far too soon.

Unfortunately too many soldiers, like my brother, haven’t made it home to their families.  Many more have come home with life changing injuries, like some of my brother’s friends.  They risk so much for us but for them it’s ‘just doing their job’. 

We have all been through difficult times since that day in 2010 but for our family and friends it is an important reason to ensure that it wasn’t for nothing. We remind ourselves every day to live life to the full, take on and share new experiences and help those in need, just as he did.     

For the first time together my Dad and I will be running the London Marathon 2014.  It’s the first marathon I have ever attempted and the third for my Dad at 60 years old (although he’s probably going to beat me to the finish!)   

We are raising money for ABF - The Soldier’s Charity.  Spend just one minute on their website and you will soon discover how vital their work is to help serving and retired soldiers.  

So please, your donation will not only help those soldiers and their families carry on with their lives but it will also reaffirm the reason for doing this on those freezing cold mornings when we have to drag ourselves out of bed for a training run over the winter.  It will ease the pain of our blistered feet and sore hamstrings after 3 hour Sunday sessions. 

It will get us to the finish when it feels like there is nothing left in the tank to carry on.
