Having fun during a day out
Why your donation matters
Do you remember your first funfair ride? First time you saw the sea? Variety at Work is responsible for thousands of “firsts” like this. Expanding children’s horizons is a vital part of their education and we work with teachers and carers to make sure the events emphasise learning is fun.
A growing child with complex and constantly changing needs; a comfortable wheelchair that fits both their body and lifestyle can genuinely transform their life. The Easy Riders team works with families and their medical teams to make sure the right equipment goes where it will make the most difference.
5,000 Sunshine Coaches are on the road since 1962 specially adapted for wheelchair users. For the schools and community groups who use them it means much easier access to a whole range of activities.
Case study: donations in action
William has quad spastic Cerebral Palsy. His condition means that he is unable to stand and walk without support. He has not any reflex/balance. He has a wheelchair which he is learning to move himself although this is slow and laborious.
William is a very bright and intelligent 5 year old who has just started in a mainstream primary school. Because William is so bright he is well aware of how his disability limits him and this is very frustrating for him. A tricycle is an excellent way for William to strengthen his legs which will improve his standing and walking. William is into everything. At this time he is big on Lego building, drawing and colouring. William makes himself heard and speaks well for a 5 year old.
