Story
Well a confession, or more a challenge report......
The Great North Run sadly came and went without my attendance. Instead I had to defer until next year. This was mainly due to an achilles injury causing real problems after the MK half which hijacked my training. Then the training lapsed and meant I was not realistically fit enough to do the North Run the justice it deserves.
So onwards with the promise of one more before the new year to make it that treble! I need to kick-start into gear and pick a reasonable race. So down, but not out!
Thankyou all again for supporting this great charity. My Dad would be so touched by the amazing support. I will post again when the next date is named. Watch this space and thank you all again for the wonderful support!!
Two out of Three!!!!!!!
MIlton Keynes Race completed today in 1 hour 55 minutes and 5 seconds. Not a personal best as i'd hoped on this flat course but considering the forced lack of training because of an achilles injury, I'm pretty chuffed!!! Its actually the second best time i've ever done and took 2 minutes off a previous time on this course two years ago.
It was a tough race, with my achilles slowing just below my comfortable running pace. I also ran alone and its a really boring route! Aches and pains almost everywhere added to the general discomfort at the halfway point, but I was able to lift the pace considerably over the last two miles....even managing a sprint finish!!!!!! Overall, pleased with my fitness!
Now I look ahead to the final race of the challenge, and hopefully raising the final £100 needed for my financial goal of £600.
The Great North Run looms and I must now get my legs and ankle fixed for the big finish..... So please donate to my cause if you haven't... and indeed please donate again if you have!!! ; )
Thankyou for your continued support!! Now I reach for the icepack!!
NEWS DESK!!!!!!! FIRST RACE COMPLETED!!!!!!!!!
On Sunday I ran the first of the 'Treble'. It was hot and hilly but I was thrilled to knock 10 minutes off my personal best making the best of a strong start!
My time was... 1 hour, 48 minutes and 6 seconds!!
......so a few days off to learn to walk again before I pull my trainers on again to start to train for the next.
I wonder if I have a 1 hour 45 in me in Milton Keynes?? - GO ON SPONSOR ME (AGAIN!!!!) AND I'LL DO MY BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last year, to remember my Dad who was tragically killed in 2007 only 6 months after his 60th, I decided to put some positive energy into training for an event to raise funds in his memory.
Last year on my birthday I ran the St Albans Half marathon and raised over £300 for the charity our family chose to best represent his life. Thankyou all who contributed!
The RSPB do great work for Birds and Wildlife in Britain. Their efforts help us all enjoy the birds in our gardens, at our lakes and rivers, woodland and coast, just as Dave did.
This year i'm upping the ante, to try to better the fundraiding effort for Pop's "feather fund" charity.
The challenge - "The Treble"
Here goes....
On the 14th June, I again run the St Albans Half Marathon. Thats challenge one......
Second is the Milton Keynes Half Marathon on 26th July........
thats challenge two.....
.....then a few weeks later on Sunday 20th September, the final part of the "Treble" - The Great North Run. The third half-marathon, starting in Newcastle, and aiming at a personal best time of less than 1 hour 57 mins. Look out for me on TV!
Training has begun..... so come on, dig deep and help me on my way to a fundraising year for Dave.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RSPB gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you friends for your support....
